Monteverdi: Vesper Martyris

With the collection Selva Morale e spirituale Monterverdi collected many of his single pieces of sacred and devotional music, just as his books of Madrigali earlier had collected many of his secular vocal pieces for a varying number of voices and instruments. The Selva morale e sprituale was published in 1640 and was the most important collection of sacred works since his famous Vespers of 1610. The program proposes a reconstruction of a vespers service based on the Selva Morale and music by contemporary composers.
